New South Wales Fancy Rat & Mouse Club

Ten Years On - Still Going Strong

What is the NSWFRMC?

The New South Wales Fancy Rat & Mouse Club is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to promoting fancy rats and mice as suitable pets for everybody. (A "Fancy" Rat or Mouse is a rat/mouse that conforms to a standard, such as Long Hair, Rex or Manx etc.)

Our primary objective is to educate the general public about the benefits and rewards associated with the ownership of these fabulous pets, and to provide a friendly, social gathering for people who share this common interest.

We endeavour to teach and educate owners and prospective owners about the joys of pet ownership, proper housing, feeding and responsible breeding practices along with the fun involved with showing Fancy Rats and Mice as a hobby.

Our Club generally holds shows at least once a month. These are often incorporated into larger agricultural or pet shows such as Campbelltown City Show, Castle Hill Show, Hawkesbury Ag-Craft Show, Fairfield Koi and Pet Expo, and Sydney Pet & Animal Expo.

Both members and non-members alike are welcome to come along to our Shows to participate, socialise, and perhaps swap information and stories about their beloved pets!

We have formal and pet sections that cater to all varieties of animals and their owners, along with trophies, sashes, ribbons and certificates for our Show winners!

We publish a bi-monthly newsletter, Twitches, that is distributed to our members both here and overseas and it contains informative articles, show results, a media watch section, stories from members and much, much more.

Where are we?

The NSWFRMC is based around the Western Suburbs of Sydney. Our Shows and meetings are generally held in areas such as Guildford, Castle Hill, Prospect, Parramatta and occasionally at Campbelltown and Richmond. We are currently negotiating for a show in the Goulburn and/or Canberra areas.

However, there are no limitations to becoming a member. We have members from all over Australia and from as far away as the USA.

Manx Rats; The main feature of the Manx is the complete absence of a tail. This is a condition of birth, not an amputation.

Note: Body type is different to tailed animals; legs should be carried well under the body, giving a pear shaped roundness to the overall appearance with slight rise to rump carriage.
